Gordon grew up in Florida, 2 hours north of Orlando. His family made the drive down to Disney World nearly every weekend. This explains a lot.

He went to school for computer science and mathematics. He dropped out of a PhD to join the world of tech startups, but kept doing research as a “hobby”. He even ran a small AI safety research institute and a semi-academic group blog for a while.

Today his life today revolves around his wife, his job, his friends, his cats, his writing, and his Zen practice. He enjoys long walks through Golden Gate Park and hiking the hills of his adopted home of San Francisco.
